PATENTING OF LIFE (26 March 1995)
Motion Details
That this House notes that on 1st March the European Parliament voted to reject the draft directive on The Legal Protection of Biotechnological Inventions at its third and final reading; congratulates the European Parliament on the stand it has taken on the patenting of life; urges the European Commission to reassess its policy on biotechnology and genetic engineering to ensure proper respect for human life, animal life and the integrity of the natural environment; and calls on the European Patent Office to take note of the significance of the decision made by the European Parliament when granting patents on life.
