PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
Antarctic Wilderness Park (8 May 1990)
Motion Details
That this House recognises the widespread international support for the declaration of the Antarctic as a World Wilderness Park; further recognises the disastrous consequences for its fragile ecology that would arise from mineral exploration in this region; calls upon the Government to reconsider its support for the Convention on the Regulation of Antarctic Mineral Activities and instead join with other Antarctic Treaty nations who are putting forward proposals for a comprehensive Environmental Convention which will replace CRAMA and exclude all mineral exploration; calls upon the Government to support such changes at the special consultative meeting on the Antarctic environment that will be held later in 1990; and recognises the crucial need to take action to protect this last unspoilt wilderness for future generations and the whole well-being of our planet.
