PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
LAW ON PROVOCATION (26 June 1995)

That this House urges the courts to consider sympathetically, and hopefully release from prison, women who have killed their violent partner after suffering sustained domestic violence, abuse and fear; considers that this should be recognised as provocation; congratulates organisations like the National Federation of Women's Institutes, The Townswomen's Guild, The TUC Women's Committee, Justice for Women and Southall Blacksisters which represent over six million women, on their campaign to change the current provocation law; and calls for a change in the law which does not reflect discrimination against women.
