PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
THE DYING ROOMS (13 June 1995)
Motion Details
That this House congratulates Channel 4 film-makers Brian Woods and Kate Blewett on their production The Dying Rooms; notes that they travelled throughout China amassing first hand evidence of the brutal results of the state population control programme which restricts families to one child; notes that this includes compulsory abortion and sterilisation and because of cultural bias has resulted in girl babies and those who are disabled being abandoned in orphanages; further notes that the film documents these children in state asylums, with their arms and legs tied in seatless chairs with potties underneath being left to die from absolute neglect; notes that British taxpayers' money is used to finance the Chinese population control programme through the International Planned Parenthood Federation and the UNFPA; calls upon Her Majesty's Government to withdraw all financial assistance from both these agencies and from all Chinese state programmes until the coercive population control programme has been stopped; and further calls upon the Government to demand that the United Nations should transfer the Fourth World Conference on Women, scheduled for September, from Beijing in China to a country with a civilised policy towards females, both adult and minor.
