PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
BBC LOCAL RADIO (6 June 1995)
Motion Details
That this House calls on the BBC to reverse its decision, and bring back into operation local BBC radio stations that have had their operations reduced across the country, including BBC CWR; urges the BBC to restore the content of local programmes to local people and to stop all further plans for the reduction of services; notes that this action has been taken as a cost cutting measure with no adequate consideration given to the invaluable service these stations were providing to, and as part of, their local communities; invites the Government to review the present limit set to borrowing by the BBC with a view to avoiding further cuts and job losses in local radio; and urges the Secretary of State for National Heritage to use all his influence to persuade the BBC of the folly of its actions.
