PARLIAMENTARY EARLY DAY MOTION
TRIBUTE TO RAY BUCKTON (9 May 1995)

That this House pays tribute to the life and work of Ray Buckton: notes his limitless dedication to the principles of equality, justice, freedom and peace and his passionate commitment to the trade union movement and to the rights of workers; further notes this invaluable work as Deputy General Secretary and then as General Secretary, leader of the train drivers' union ASLEF during the years 1970 to 1987, as leader of York Council and as Chair of the TUC; recalls his unswerving belief in a fully integrated public transport system; and believes that his warmth, humour and courage will be sadly missed by the whole Labour movement but that his memory will stay as an inspiration to all.
