The settlement of Palestine has an interesting albeit short history. Land was set aside at the end of the Great War by the Board of Agriculture to provide homes and smallholdings for soldiers returning from the near East campaign. However, relatively few took up the offers and Palestine remains very open with only scattered development having taken place. There is now a mix of residential and commercial development in those parts where development has taken place. The dwellings at the left in the distance are in Palestine Road.
