The Market Hall burnt down in 2004. Its rebuilding is almost complete (October 2008) and it is due to reopen in November 2008. The "signpost" on the right hand side is known as a "Crown Pole" and shows the direction to the other eight towns in Tameside Metropolitan Borough.
