By the middle of February 2008 the contractors dredging the Union Canal were working in the Allan Park area, between Slateford and Craiglockhart, but the dredged mud was still being transferred from barge to lorry near the Leamington Lift Bridge in Edinburgh. This necessitated a steady stream of tugs propelling hopper barges over the intervening 2½ miles. Here "Dignity" is proceeding eastwards with a full barge and passes "Scaup" returning for another load. The difference in freeboard between full and empty barges is most noticeable.
