The residents of the small town of Kirriemuir in Angus were served between December 1854 and August 1952 by a short railway branch from the Perth - Aberdeen main line. In June 1965 goods trains ceased to run along the branch and the track was soon taken up. As has often been the case the land formerly occupied by the railway was sold to adjacent landholders to do what they liked with it. It is pleasing to record, therefore, that the farmer at Denmill Farm has erected signs indicating that his stretch of the line, together with an access route across his land, is a "Horses & Walkers Path" as it runs on a long curving embankment paralleled by the Gairie Burn east of Kirriemuir.
