These are very early gravel pits with very uneven digging, providing varying habitat mainly for birds. Hobbies can often be seen swooping for damselflies at the right season. The reserve, still owned by a local gravel company, is managed by Wiltshire Wildlife. Swill Brook is in the trees in the middle distance.
