Pettifers is one of several long-established businesses in Bromyard. In recent years it has attracted some notoriety, due to the firm's manufacture and sale of "gollywog" dolls. The dolls were temporarily seized in 2007 by the local constabulary, but released when no charges were brought. Apparently they sell well by mail order, doubtless aided by the national media's publicity of the police activity.
