There are three sets of cottages, numbering 1-34 south of the railway line, numbers 17-34 are behind the photographer running up the hill from the Trevor Arms. Numbers 11-16 are to the west of the pub whilst these are numbers 1-6 facing with 7-10 at right angles. All the cottages were built for the workers of nearby Balcombe and Brigden Pits between 1860-81. Between the two lanes heading south out of the village are the allotments for the cottages.
