Major maintenance of the A335 involving closure of the road. "According to nationally set standards, significant parts of the A335 Southampton Road and Wide Lane are close to or have passed the end of their useful life....Major Maintenance will restore the carriageway, footways and drainage within the scheme to provide a high quality riding surface and improved amenities." The concrete base of the old road, which seems to be above the level of the new kerbing, is here being dug up.
