Taken from the Poynings Road exit and looking down West Road, the A281, which then turns north following the route of the old coach road from Brighton to Henfield. West Road was built in the second decade of the 19th century to link the newly constructed section of the London-Brighton turnpike at Pyecombe with the older coaching route.
