This Carboniferous, Quartz-dolerite sill provides Tarmac with an aggregate source for the production of asphalt. Tarmac were the specialist subcontractor awarded a £6.2m contract by Morrison Construction to undertake all surfacing works on the M9 / A90 Spur http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/454864. Almost 200,000 tonnes of asphalt were laid over a 12 month period that included 25,000 tonnes of the high strength stuff specially mixed at this local quarry. http://www.tarmac.co.uk/NationalContracting/CS_EME2_030108.aspx
