The Lanchester library, Coventry University

Opened in 2000, the library was built to energy efficient specifications, making use of lights wells and exhaust stacks to draw air through the building, providing natural ventilation. Its name commemorates the engineer Frederick Lanchester and the previous incarnation of the university as Lanchester Polytechnic. To the left of the library is the William Morris building, commemorating the car manufacturer and formerly occupied over the years by Hotchkiss, Morris, a tax office and a DHSS office. The stonework in the foreground is the remains of the church of the Whitefriars monastery, the end wall of which is to the right.
