This public house is in Main Street about half a kilometre north of Glenrothes with Thornton station but is actually named for the former Thornton Junction station on the Edinburgh - Dundee main line, an approximately equal distance east along Station Road (note the road sign on the right pointing to Golf Club and Bowling Club). The latter station closed in 1969 and until Glenrothes station was opened in 1992 Thornton was not served by trains.
