Threats to the survival of this 30-year old hospital have caused much anxiety but now there is £39m service improvement plan which, in addition to the new Emergency and Urgent Care Centre, will create up to 50 per cent single en-suite rooms, provide renal dialysis facilities locally, improve rehabilitation services and, in time, create new chemotherapy and paediatric facilities. In addition the Welsh Assembly is planning to fund two new theatres to support the A&E service which is considered crucial to West Wales.
