This route was improved in 1734 see guidestone: Image The road runs very straight across the top of the moor and in the 18th century was probably more easily navigated than the low lying Don Valley which carries the main Sheffield to Manchester road today. This road was surprisingly busy as we made our way along and obviously a popular 5pm rat-run. The Mossley service reservoir can just be seen to the right Image
