Why, one might ask, has a churchwarden's seat been provided for a church that ceased to exist in 1666? When a former parish was united to another church its parishioners interests were guarded by a discrete Churchwarden, an arrangement that persisted until 1907 when many City pre-fire parishes had virtually no residents.
