Little is known about the origins and history of this feature. When Bridgnorth District Council in 2004 were considering areas under their control for environmental improvements, the base and verge near the cross came up for consideration, but the minutes of the meeting could add little detail to the knowledge of the cross, except to say that it's a Grade 2 listed monument.
