The Maris Centre was formerly the Plant Breeding Institute, whence a number of potato varieties including the well-known Maris Piper originated. After a brief twilight career as a book store while the Cambridge Central Library was being redeveloped, the building was demolished, and the site is now occupied by Image (absurdly named after a bridge in Venice!) on the Trumpington Meadows development.
