This was the scene of sit-ins and violent protest during the construction of the A12(M) link road connecting M11 with central London. The new road passes under the green in a cut-and-cover tunnel. The old log on the left marks the site of a huge ancient oak tree which was felled during construction. The view is looking north to The George public house (centre) and Wanstead tube station (right)
