Hated by many local Bangorians, this is a fairly interesting modern construction built 1968-69 by contractors William Dowling Ltd to a design by Shanks & Leighton. It was built for the Allied Irish Bank but is now occupied by a card shop on the ground floor with offices above. The site was formerly occupied by the Imperial Hotel, built c1880. The picture at http://www.francisfrith.com/search/northern+ireland/county+down/bangor/photos/bangor_40270.htm shows the hotel as the building directly right of the lamp-post.
