The inscription reads "in commemoration of the six men from East Kilbride who lost their lives in the Udston Colliery disaster on Saturday 28th May 1887 William Babes, Robert Jarvie, James McCulloch Snr, James McCulloch Jnr, James Spiers and Felix Torley Dedicated on 5 October 2002. Supported by South Lanarkshire Council and Blantyre Miners Welfare"
