The plaque reads: In 1887, the Queen's fiftieth jubilee year, the fisherman's Victoria Hall was built as the cultural and social centre of the Fishertown, here were held countless weddings, receptions, and political meetings, and band of hope classes taught rousing temperance songs and warned children of the evils of strong drink, fishermen could hire books from the library for reading far from home at the fishing.
