The main part of the house dates from 1775. It was refaced in 1826 with Roman cement to the design of William Atkinson. The tower on the left was added in 1856 to the design of Philip Hardwick. Over the front door is the Gresham crest, a grasshopper, commemorating the original owners of the estate. Above this are the Gresham arms, and on the parapet are those of the Leveson Gowers, who were the subsequent owners, inherited through a female line of descent.
