From the southern corner of the recreation ground looking north west. A pillar in the western corner bears a plaque which states "This recreation ground was secured to the public for ever by the strenuous efforts of Alfred Spencer Esq. May 18?? and was formally opened for public use Oct 17th 18?? Edwin Barrow Smith Esq. Mayor - Edward Moar clerk to the local board."
