" This stone being the first one placed in position in connection with the widening of this bridge was laid on the 24th day of April 1931 by Alderman A. Arrowsmith Maund, chairman of the streets committee. " Other notaries on the plaque: William Shakespeare (Mayor), Hon. John Coventry (Deputy Mayor), Samuel Southall (town clerk), C.I. Carey Walker (City Surveyor).
