The Pedestal, which is on the west side of the roundabout junction of the A40 and A4010 roads, is a milestone of indeterminate age. I am indebted to the Ordnance Survey's map edition of 1900 for the following transcriptions of what are now increasingly faint (and high on the plinth below the ball!) inscriptions:- The City......30 miles (meaning the City of London) University..........22 miles (meaning Oxford) County Town.......15 miles (meaning Buckingham)
