At one time most of the larger local authorities operated their own passenger transport undertakings. Today Swindon Borough Council is one of the handful who still do, though it is an "arm's length" company trading as Thamesdown Transport. For over 100 years the depot was based in the original tramways depot in the town centre but in the Autumn of 2005 the depot was moved to new purpose built premises at Barnfield Road on the outer edges of the town. Note that at this time the undertaking's logos had not been applied to the ends of the building.
