During shooting of sequences for the feature film "Eye of the Needle" a train heads for Alresford. You may have noticed that the Alresford distant signal is "off", possibly the only time this has been the case since the line was preserved. This was done to agree with the film plot, which depicted the train as a northbound express! As Alresford is now a terminus station, the distant signal is always fixed as "on" during normal services.
