St Agnes' church > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/871533 is a large building which is probably best viewed from a distance. The church was built by the de la Poles during the 15th century. Inside, the nave has a largely unrestored hammerbeam roof retaining traces of its original colour; each post supports a large carved standing angel with outspread wings and more angels line the cornice and the apex > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/871536. The tall C16 rood screen > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/871539 - http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/871541 - believed to have been painted by at least three different Flemish artists - has 16 panels depicting saints, with four additional panels depicting St Jerome, St Ambrose, St Augustine and St Gregory, forming the screen doors > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/871544 . Above the chancel arch the red background to the former rood can still be seen, the location of the cross outlined in white. In the south transept there is a C15 wall painting of St Agnes > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/871546.
