This photograph shows a view of Ankerside Shopping Centre, taken from the Castle Grounds. Ankerside Shopping centre was opened by Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth 2, on Friday 6th June 1980, phase two of Ankerside Shopping Centre was opened in 1992. The part of Ankerside Shopping Centre in this photograph is the original phase one section. Access to this Shopping centre is either from the Castle Grounds entrance as shown, or from two entrances in George Street, or through Ankerside Shopping Centres Multi storey car park.
