The stone to the left carries plaques reading: "SANDAY'S CORNER, MILLENNIUM 2000" and "Commemorative Millennium Garden donated for the benefit of the residents of the hamlet of Holme Pierrepont by Tarmac Quarry Products Limited" and a list of the residents. I'm assuming 'Sanday' was a locally important person (the web refers to a William Sanday, theologian), and that the name is not in fact a misspelling of 'Sandy' - the name of the lane running off to the back of the picture. In any case, whilst the seat was convenient for my packed lunch, it was not very comfortable.
