The Wilts and Berks canal once ran through the town centre, and after it was filled in during the 1920's it became a pedestrian route and cycleway. This view shows the old canal bridge at the southern end of Milton Road [Milton road to the right and Commercial Road to the left]. The tall brick building on the left may have started as a warehouse, but for many years was the Central Club. Presumably all this area has now been redeveloped.
