Situated in the pedestrianised part of Sheep Street, one of the town's main shopping streets, the pub is named after the first ever postage stamp. This is because the premises were formerly a post office. But the J.D. Wetherspoon pub wasn't opened here until October 1997. http://www.jdwetherspoon.co.uk/pubs/pub-details.php?PubNumber=556
