By 2004 this former dye works was totally derelict and full of asbestos. The site had not been secured and it was evident from the graffiti that teenagers had been inside it. No-one seemed to know what to do about it. To re-use the site for housing would be very expensive considering the environmental clean-up that would be necessary.
