Built in 1928, the box remains very active. It once controlled the notorious A351 level crossing which was the scene of huge jams during the summer caused by holiday traffic to and from Swanage and Weymouth. The level crossing was taken out of use when a new road bridge was opened in 1980 but is still used as a foot crossing. The new road bridge can be seen on the left of the picture.
