Introduction

The photograph on this page of DARA Hangar St Athan with Aberthaw Power Station in the background by Mick Lobb as part of the Geograph project.

The Geograph project started in 2005 with the aim of publishing, organising and preserving representative images for every square kilometre of Great Britain, Ireland and the Isle of Man.

There are currently over 7.5m images from over 14,400 individuals and you can help contribute to the project by visiting https://www.geograph.org.uk

The white building was built as a government investment to facilitate servicing of aircraft by civilians in a 'Centre of Excellence' at the former RAF base. It failed! At the time the photograph was taken, as can be seen from the vehicles parked outside the building, it was still active. At time of submission it could hardly be said to be so. Future plans for the site are for a 'Training Academy' but building work on the project, at time of submission, is not to begin until 2009 and there is some indication that the project is delayed for a further 8 years.
