Broad beans are a beneficial crop for the farmer, there is evidence of cultivation back to 6000 b.c. They make good winter feed for animals and are a useful cash crop. Their roots fix nitrogen in the soil and the deep tap roots improve its condition. http://www.ukagriculture.com/crops/field_beans_uk.cfm
