One of London's atmospheric backstreets, Folgate street was developed in the 18th century. By the 1960s the area had become very run down and the houses here were threatened with demolition and redevelopment. They were saved by a concerted campaign; nowadays the character of the area and its proximity to the City ensures that it is much sought after.
