The Black Bull on the A59 has for many years been in the shadow of Menwith Hill but now has the wind turbines at Knabs Ridge as close neighbours as well. A layby just beyond the pub has been a traditional site for protest and in June 2008 is occupied by a hunger striker opposed to the war in Iraq.
