Well i' th' Lane Bridge, Rochdale Canal

This bridge carries a motor road of local importance: to the left (north) of the bridge, its name is Milkstone Road, and to the right (south) it is Well i' th' Lane. This road formed part of the old road from Rochdale to Oldham. For many years, the road was served by motorbuses of Rochdale Corporation, on the No 1 route, (Rochdale to Castleton, via Deeplish). They were single deckers because of the necessity to pass under the railway on Milkstone Road. The route was re-numbered when the PTE took over, but the road is now (2008) no longer served by buses at all.
