Commercial Road has become something of a "Takeaway Alley" with several such establishments along a short stretch of the road. The one called "Magic Wok" was for many years "Cards" fish and chip shop where the service was always excellent and the fish and chips delicious. It is, then, somewhat ironic that on a brief visit to Totton, I was unable to find anywhere in Commercial Road to buy a portion of chips at lunch time. The door of the "Magic Wok" was open and someone was cooking but he was shaking his head. Thinking that it was some sort of affliction, I politely asked for a portion of chips. It then became clear that he was indicating that the takeaway was closed as he then deigned to speak to me in broken English saying "No - closed" (or something to that effect!). I tried to establish when it would be open but all he could say was "closed". I recount this just to let any intending customers know that there is nothing magic about the customer service at the "Magic Wok"!
