Black Brook is a tributary of the River Goyt and ultimately the River Mersey. The shallow, stony area near the centre of the photograph is the location of a long disused ford on the packhorse road between Whaley Bridge and Chinley. A water pipe crosses the brook towards the left of the photograph.
