Originally built in 1867, but burnt down in 1879. Rebuilt in 1880 only to be burnt down again and rebuilt in 1895. Converted to television studios in the 1950s and had another fire in 1970. The theatre was renovated as an opera house in 1974-5 and it continues today as the home of Scottish Opera.
