The building is listed grade II (list entry 1266420) where it is described as a former alehouse, known as the 'Grinning Rat'. The datestone of 1818 with initials JEC is said to refer to landlords John and Elizabeth Cockshott, rather than the date of construction, likely to be late 18th century. It later became a farmhouse. I found a Facebook post from 2019, in which a couple of people recalled one room being used as a sweetshop in the early to mid 20th century.
