Opened in 1868 by the Busby Railway which soon became part of the Caledonian Railway, the line once ran from Glasgow to Hamilton but the section beyond East Kilbride was not a commercial success, and this has been the terminus for many years. View east towards the buffers a few months after the railway line had been electrified. A new station building was also opened in 2025 to replace the previous 1970s one, just visible on Image Although there had previously been numerous sidings to the left of the image, now housing, there was only ever a single platform here.
